Review: Quarantine

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

Quarantine is a horror film directed by John Erick Dowdle and starring Jennifer Carpenter that was released October 10th, 2008 here in the US.

The movie is about a film crew that follows a team of firefighters to a call in an LA apartment complex. Upon arriving to the unit in question, they are attacked by the woman in question. She has a zombie-like mannerism; unresponsive, moans, aggressive behavior, chases and attacks usually by biting. Upon biting someone, that person becomes infected. This is a spin on the traditional “Zombie Flick” in that they say that the infected have a mutation of rabies.

Review: Star Wars – The Force Unleashed

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

I bought the iPhone and XBox 360 versions on Tuesday. I love the 360 version and have been playing it every night for a couple hours.

If you don’t know what it is about already, I will tell you. The story is about a boy named Starkiller that Darth Vader takes under his wing to teach him the ways of the dark side. The difference with this from other Star Wars games, is that the use of the force is unlike anything that has ever been done. You can lift, throw, electrocute and a variety of other force attacks. As you progress through the game, you learn more of these force powers. You do all of this while using the touch screen to control your attacks and defenses.

Review: Spore Origins

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

Spore Origins is a new game that was release for the iPhone on Tuesday, September 9, 2008. It uses the accelerometer to move a creature that you create. As you pass levels you can add new types of parts; perceptive, offensive, defensive, movement. You can customize the look of your creature from the color to pattern and can even select a picture from your iPhone to use as a pattern. Another way to customize your creature is by shifting its shape, which I have noticed can really affect the way your creature handles.

Review: Bangkok Dangerous

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

Bangkok Dangerous, more like Bang-cock Dangerous-ly bad.

A movie about a hitman that decides to train his delivery boy as his successor.

Not only was the acting horrible, the action scenes were weak and it seemed like an old man trying to do action scenes. Not to mention the entire plot lacked any cohesion.

Ok, I like plotless action movies sometimes but not where the lead falls in love with a deaf girl and 20 minutes of the movie is acted out in sign language and then never goes anywhere. Finish it all off with a balding guy trying to look cool by growing what hair he does have out and dying it black.

Don’t see this in the theater. Don’t rent it on DVD. Don’t even watch it on CBS one day when you are sick and have only one channel to watch.

Review: Lumen

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

Lumen is a logic puzzle game. It uses colored laser beams, colored filters, mirrors and check-points.

The game is played by strategically placing a colored laser and beaming it through the colored check-points. Along the way you may need to use a filter to change the color of the beam to go through other check-points. Once all check-points have been beamed through, the puzzle is complete.

The game is very addicting and boasts over a 1,000 puzzles between application and community. I have spent countless hours playing and have played a few puzzles that made me scratch my head for hours trying to figure them out. If you enjoy logic puzzles, this is a great deal at $1.99 through the App Store.

9/10/08 – I have lowered the star rating from 4.5 to 4. As I have played several of puzzles in the “all puzzles” category, and several of them have crashed back to the previous puzzle. One thing I will mention in their favor, they recently restyled the entire puzzle. It looks really slick now.
