I received my Google Wave invitation a few weeks ago after waiting about 8 months from seeing the video preview of it. I immediately sent out the invitations that were included with it to friends of mine. I did this because if you don’t have any Wave friends, you won’t really be able to do much on it. Every bit of its use is through communications with your friends and colleagues through your contact list built in Wave. This meant that I also had to wait for all of my friends that I had sent invites to, to receive their invitations and show up on my contact list. It seemed to take quite a few days for my friends to receive the invite. I wondered if Google was trying to spread the user load out to balance the server load.
