Roller Coaster Saturday: Part 2

Now continuing from Part 1.

Heidi and I got home from the emergency room about 3 hours later. Once home I laid down on the couch to relax as I was very doped up on a narcotic cocktail that the doctor had given me.

While I laid there I began thinking about the plans that I had for the rest of the evening. Today was Heidi and I’s anniversary and I had planned to reenact our first date. Now I was thinking about what she would be doing for me whereas I would have normally done for her (ie. open doors). Although I was a little frustrated about my condition, I let it go and realized that it wasn’t a big deal.

First we had to go and pick up my meds from the pharmacy. Once leaving the pharmacy, Heidi asked me where we were going as she was driving. She knew we were going to dinner but didn’t know where.

As we got closer to the restaurant, she asked if we were going to Anmarin Thai. I told her that we were. She had a huge smile on her face and told me that she was hoping that we would go there.

After eating dinner, I was giving her directions to the next place that we were going. As we parked next to Claire De Lune (coffee shop), I looked at her and she was smiling a large smile again. She then asked me if we were reenacting our first date. I told her that we were. She was overjoyed and told me how much she appreciated the idea and thought about our plans for the evening.

We ordered teas and sat outside to talk. We talked about all sorts of stuff from random to deep intellect and emotion. It had been a while since we were able to talk like that. I really enjoyed our conversation.

After finishing our teas, we took off to Coronado. We stopped off on the north side of the island and enjoyed the skyline while walking the boardwalk. We began to notice that there was fog rolling in. We then decided to head off to the south side of the island to walk on the beach, as it was where our first kiss happened.

While driving over there, the fog got thicker and thicker. It was so dense that we could only see about 20 feet in front of the car. Driving around in fog that dense was a challenge but finding a parking spot was next to impossible due to the poor visibility and lack of adequate lighting. We finally found a spot, parked and then head off towards the beach.

Anyone that has been to the south Coronado beach knows that it is an incredibly long walk through very soft sand. As we walked through the fog towards the shoreline, it became more and more difficult to see. We probably couldn’t see more than 5-10′ in front of us at this point. A few times we would see shadows and as we got closer, realized that they were garbage cans. The more difficult it became to see anything, the tighter Heidi squeezed my arm. After some point, the only thing really guiding us was the sounds of the waves washing up on the shore.

Arriving to the shoreline, we decided that it would be best to giver ourselves some room between us and the waves coming in as to not get soaked. We walked down the beach for some time. After a while Heidi asked if we could go back as she was really freaked out because she couldn’t see anything. So we started back to where we arrived on the shore.

The glow of the lifeguard tower couldn’t even bee seen from where we were, so we continued to make our way in that direction. Finally after walking for a while, we began to see the glow from the tower. I then mentioned to Heidi that I felt like I has something in my shoe and that I needed to get it out.

I knelt down and pretended to dig in my shoe for the imaginary nuisance. Looking at Heidi I noticed her look away from me towards the glowing lifeguard tower. Once she did that, I reached into my pocket and pulled out a little black box, opened it and turned it towards her just as her attention returned to me.

Her eyes made out what I was holding and she immediately covered her mouth as if she were to scream out a flurry of emotion. I could barely say a thing at that moment, as I was overwhelmed with emotion. After a moment, I asked “Will you do me the honor of becoming Mrs. Dolan?” To which Heidi replied choking back tears, “Yes, yes I will.”
