Review: Lumen

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

Lumen is a logic puzzle game. It uses colored laser beams, colored filters, mirrors and check-points.

The game is played by strategically placing a colored laser and beaming it through the colored check-points. Along the way you may need to use a filter to change the color of the beam to go through other check-points. Once all check-points have been beamed through, the puzzle is complete.

The game is very addicting and boasts over a 1,000 puzzles between application and community. I have spent countless hours playing and have played a few puzzles that made me scratch my head for hours trying to figure them out. If you enjoy logic puzzles, this is a great deal at $1.99 through the App Store.

9/10/08 – I have lowered the star rating from 4.5 to 4. As I have played several of puzzles in the “all puzzles” category, and several of them have crashed back to the previous puzzle. One thing I will mention in their favor, they recently restyled the entire puzzle. It looks really slick now.

3G iPhone in Hand

Well, after dropping my 2G iPhone a couple of months ago, the speakers and microphone stopped working yesterday. I went to the Apple store in Fashion Valley and they had just sold out. I went online after 9p to find out that they would have more in the next day. So I got to the store this morning at about 6:45a. I got in just after 8a and got the 3G. It took only a couple minutes to get it purchased and activated. There is a huge tactile difference with the case. Anyone that has/had a 2G will know what I mean when I say that the old case would slip right out of your hands (and did several times). It would also say that there is a significant weight loss on the 3G as well. It looks sharp as hell. Definitely glad I got it. I can’t wait for Heidi to get hers!

Golden ShellBack: Waterproof your iPhone

Friday, July 25th, 2008

Have you ever dropped your phone in water on accident? What happened to it, did it continue to work? Most likely no, but it might have functioned to some degree after it was dried in some fashion for a few days. I came across this video that shows a company called Golden Shellback that will seal your iPhone or other electronic device. Watching the video, you can see that the device will actually function underwater as well, meaning you can press buttons under water. If this really works the ways it looks like it does, this could revolutionize the electronic industry. I have had a few phones and other electronic devices suffer from some sort of liquid damage. This process (even if it is pricey) could save you a lot of money in having to replace the damaged item sometimes costing thousands of dollars.

Wordpress App for iPhone

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

Those of you out there with a Wordpress blog and an iPhone can now download the Wordpress iPhone app from iTunes. I have downloaded it and used it and have to say it is really quite simple and easy to use. On top of that, you can actually add photos to a post directly from your iPhone. From my research it seems that your WP version needs to be 2.5 or higher to support this app. The other key point to be made is that it is currently really only for adding posts and not so much the management of anything else like comments.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed for iPhone

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

OMFG! I got goos bumps watching this. The first couple of minutes are just dialog, but at about 2:40 you will see the games controls in action. It is due to be released September 16th. This is a really big thing for iPhone gaming. I think it will begin to open a lot of doors for the iPhone and game developers.
